The World Expo 2010 that took place in Shanghai will make history as one of the most ambitious world expos, with the record number of participants and visitors. During the six months from May 1 to October 31, dozens of companies and 189 countries, Lithuania among them, had their representation at the Expo. The main theme that ran through Expo 2010 was “Better City, Better Life”.

On 25 October the international exhibition Expo 2010 held in Shanghai will celebrate the National Day of Lithuania. A one-day festival will be attended by the world famous Lithuanians and the official event will be honoured by the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė.

On 25 – 28 October 2010, the Lithuanian pavilion will have the guest Ms Matilda Teresė Jucienė, one of the best braiders of national sashes in Lithuania. Weaving and braiding of sashes is one of the oldest Lithuanian folk handicrafts that came from as long ago as the 13th century. The Lithuanian craftswoman, who has been weaving sashes for over 30 years, will not only display her works in Shanghai but will teach this art to visitors of the Expo exhibition too.

As far back as 600 years ago, on the 15th of July, the Battle of Grunwald took place, becoming one of the most famous European battles and one of the most important turning-points in the history of Lithuania. The victory in this battle ended the war that lasted two hundred years. To commemorate this splendid anniversary, on 13th–20th July the Lithuanian pavilion will revive with the medieval spirit.

Lithuania’s pavilion in Shanghai, which is currently hosting the international Expo 2010 exhibition has attracted 2 million visitors. At the expo that has been going on for two months already, the Lithuanian pavilion is among the most visited, even surpassing the stands of countries like Great Britain and Turkey in terms of the amount of people that have come to see it.

Tomorrow, on 1st of July, Lithuanian pavilion in the world exposition “Expo 2010” will be visited by the anniversary 2 millionth visitor. The honorable guest is expected to arrive around 12pm. The representatives of the Lithuanian pavilion will present remembrance gifts, which are given only to the mostly respectable guests of the pavilion, to the anniversary visitor, who will also enjoy a special excursion around the pavilion arranged by the Lithuanian guides.

Lithuania’s pavillion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai today received its one-millionth visitor: 35-year-old Che Lili from nearby Zhejiang Province. The one-millionth visitor was welcomed in just over one month since the pavillion’s opening. Visitor traffic to Lithuania’s pavillion has exceeded earlier predictions, and organisers have now nearly doubled the number of expected visitors.

Events marking the opening of Expo 2010 will be held today in Shanghai. Organisers say that this expo, in which Lithuania is one of 192 countries taking part, is the largest and most ambitious of any world's fair ever held. The doors to Expo 2010 will be open to visitors starting this Saturday.
